With Solange’s Cape Town-filmed music video only days away from dropping, thought I’d revisit another music video made by a US artist (and truly one of my favourites) - Janet Jackson’s ‘Got ‘til It’s Gone’.
Although the video wasn’t filmed in Cape Town, the music video is set during Apartheid in South Africa (see if you can spot the Afrikaans-written segregation signs) and features scenes inspired by iconic Malian photographer Malick Sidibe.
South Sudanese supermodel Alek Wek also features in the video.
Shot by Mark Romanek in Los Angeles, the video won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video.
