You’re not the first person I’ve seen this from. I totally buy it.
Animals never call them on their fake-allyship, their intersectionality fail, their directing people to writings by “allies” instead of the oppressed group, and so on.
Animals don’t want to be acknowledged as the leaders of their struggle.
Oh god this is so true
i tend to think animals do give us signs that they don’t want the fake-allyship of humans, we are just not inclined to read it as such.
like every time i read or hear about stories of animals that have died from depression in zoos, refuse to mate, or break free from the captivity that is supposed to “protect them” i tend to read it as a sign that animals are aware of how condescending it is for animal activism to come out of the same place that the imperialism/colonialism which destroyed their natural habitats and poached them stemmed from. i mean, its great for the world wildlife federation to talk a good game about animals going extinct, but which civilization hunted animals for sport and destroyed their habitats in the first place?
so yeah, i would agree that its easy for white vegans by and large to stick up for animals because animals don’t blatantly call them out on their shit, but there are signs they have been simultaneously resisting and suffering in their resistance as well.
