learned last night that cell and DNA memory is no joke. saggin pants stems from black men being lynched and hung. black men would be sodomized before being hung and his pants would be “sagged” to shame him. black men please stop this trend.
i…
alla dis!
no. That is a poor example. If you don’t like it say you don’t like it. Do not attempt to correlate a current trend to lynching to add some validity to it.
I have a problem with things like this considering if this is true (and I’m gonna need to see some sources cause yall be spreading folktales like it pays your bills), “sagging” could be considered reclamation for Black people. Something with a problematic history (to say the least) that is brought back and repurposed by the people it harmed… That is the very definition of reclamation
Much like the use of “nigger”, recounting history as a reason why something shouldn’t be done… It just isn’t enough.
I don’t like it either, it looks corny to me, but one Black person doesn’t have the right to tell another to stop it.
I need to see all of the receipts for this, cause iirc this has been brought up before and proven false. Either way, stop trying to shame young Black folks for their clothes, and stop with these bullshit implications that they’re going to be raped and lynched for their pants hanging low. Fuck you and fuck that bullshit.
can we talk about the blatant homophobia being used to shame black men tho? ” PULL YO PANTS UP OR ELSE BUTTSECK!!”
I wasn’t going to bring it up cause I thought it’d be derailing, and I really didn’t feel comfortable bringing up homosexuality & consensual anal sex in a conversation about rape & sodomy. But if you want to make a separate discussion you know I can roll with it.
oy the commentary i tried to reblog by aphoticoccurances got cut off
but i do think its important to talk about the way in which this respectability politic of not sagging is infused with homophobia, and makes the illogical correlation between sagging and anal sex as a negative consequence of sagging part of the equation. as if to say “respectable men don’t sag, so they don’t have anal sex/don’t signal to the world they want to have anal sex/or are not anally raped” and blurs a lot of lines with respect to consent, rape, sexuality and difference presentations of sexuality amongst black men.
