three things i learned while struggling to volumize my hijab look, hence my face of “WTF mate!”
hijab tutorial videos are not necessarily natural hair friendly (or African diasporic hair friendly, but i don’t want to assume that all african diasporic people who are hijab wearing muslims have natural hair, cause i know that ish aint true), and fail to realize when i pull my dreads back it doesn’t make this huge bump at the back of my head for anchoring, but just makes it more impossible to have a smooth look all over
i seriously need to invest in some straight pins. the only hang up i have about those is i don’t want them to get caught in my dreadlocs underneath my two layers of scarves. we’ll see about that in the future
did i mention that scarf length also doesn’t cater to natural hair very well either? yeah, forgive me because my hair isn’t naturally flat as the wall Humpty Dumpty fell off in the nursery rhyme. so i need hijab stores to realize that if they want my business, because i have a couple of really cute designs that fundamentally fall too short for my hair type.
and no, i’m not trimming or cutting my locs off to make it easier. screw that noise!
we’ll see if i can duplicate this tomorrow before class and then visiting my mentor at umass……prolly not tho!
