I just don’t understand
You teenagers, Y-U-NO Have the slightest bit of acne!????!!!?!?!?!?!!!
its all in the genes and the products you use.
For example, it took me years to realize that cleansers just don’t get my skin clean. i have to do it two or three times, and that’s fundamentally a waste of my money, time and product. Now I use clay based face masks twice...

When i go into the laundry room and three out of the four dryers are broken.
I mean….our laundry rooms have instructions with cartoons, real pictures, words…HUGE WORDS!!
Short of having headphones and posters written in braille, I don’t know how people can’t get the message that:
you can’t over-stuff the washing machines or the dryers and expect them to work

I am really really sick (finally got whatever the kids had) and my back collapsed on itself today—so I can hardly sit for more than a few minutes without being in pain. I have read *some* of the discussion on “language policing”—not all of it. I am not going to offer any opinion, because I haven’t…

Tiara the Merch Girl: to clarify: →

every time this language issue comes up (see Tiara’s original post for context), a bunch of people say that there’s a false dichotomy being drawn between reforming language and “real action”. In theory I agree — it should be possible to pay attention to language and also be…
Question
leonineclaire:
An issue has come up on Tumblr and I have a question that I would love someone to answer! Is there a problem using the word homophobia in ways besides not being accurate i.e. heterosexism is better?
I think it really depends on the situation its being applied to.
I tend to think (and i could be wrong) that only a handful of people are genuinely afraid of LGBT people. The rest I...

It’s official: cultural appropriation sets off my nervous twitch. Specifically all-white reggae bands putting on their “reggae” voices in a bar with only 2ish people of color, where we’re shooting each other “WTF” looks but don’t know each other.
Is this the point at which I’m too angry all the time for my own good? Nope? Okay, cool.
I don’t think you’re too angry....

Why Women Who Pick and Process Your Food Face... →
Chances are, you’ve never connected your dinner to violence against women. And yet, a new report published by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) makes that link. The report, “Injustice on Our Plates: Immigrant Women in the U.S. Food Industry,” compiles the experiences of 150 immigrant women who came from Mexico or other Latin American countries to work in the food industry, both in ...
ancestryinprogress asked: Ah, so you're my East Coast women's college counterpart eh? And you were talking about class? I'm sorry that I missed out on this discussion (was at the first queer alum-student event)...
nyangni asked: I sincerely hope my response to your class qualms didn't sound rude in its succinctness. It was because of the word number constraints. Anyhow, I think elitism is extremely prevalent in Liberal Arts colleges, in general. One of the things I noticed upon my arrival to Wellesley, was that people in Boston are extremely class conscious. If you don't go to Wellesley, MIT, or Harvard in...

Finally getting my schedule together: A Rant
This week was hell in a handbasket trying to pick classes. I wanted to take four jewish studies classes at smith, and only got into two.
The reason being: I wasn’t aware teachers were actually serious when they said “only juniors and seniors allowed”.
On Tuesday I went to the first “junior/senior” class i wanted to get into about holocaust narratives and...

“A new earthquake” is what peasant farmer leader Chavannes Jean-Baptiste of the Peasant Movement of Papay (MPP) called the news that Monsanto will be donating 60,000 seed sacks (475 tons) of hybrid corn seeds and vegetable seeds, some of them treated with highly toxic pesticides. The MPP has committed to burning Monsanto’s seeds, and...

Questioning my life choices
Lately I’ve been questioning my desire to pursue a career in academia. I’ve been wondering why I’ve had this dream of being a professor since childhood, considering its not like I’m in love with the American educational system. Yet something else has been gnawing at the back of my head, creating the doubt in my mind that i don’t want to be a teacher….and I...

How the day sounds
I went to my first two classes at Smith today:
the 10:10 bus broke down, so i waited in the cold for the 10:30 bus. such a freezing cold shit show!!
found the building my classes are going to be in. I’m basically going to be camping out in Seelye this semester.
my two teachers are really awesome, and i don’t doubt the class will be interesting.

i feel like a little kid again
this whole week has been spent getting ready to take classes at smith.
I went to target and trader joe’s to go grocery shopping. while at target i was looking for a 5 subject notebook to cover all 4-5 of my smith classes (it really depends on whether i get in). I felt like my mom was taking me school supply shopping at Office Depot again. I can feel the childhood self bypassing all the my...

went to Hampshire JSU’s Tu B-Shvat services. Rabbi Rachel invited me. It was a really nice service and everyone was so friendly.
I wish i could write more but I’m so exhausted that it hurts
time to turn on that yippie new age music that puts me to sleep in like 5 minutes
metricdisco asked: Alright, well that's good to know. :) The class I want to take off campus is French and they advised me to take it so... hopefully it will work out.
